NVL LADIES HEAD COACH

James Kemp

I have been involved in Volleyball for over 28-years and it’s so exciting to finally be part of a club with a real passion, desire and hunger for success!

As a coach I have been fortunate enough to have had so many quality players to work with – none more so than right now! I have always immersed myself within the sport and in particular with elite level coaches. This has helped me to develop my own philosophy and style of play, which my players buy into wholeheartedly.

My successes to date include being awarded National Children’s Coach of the Year in 2011, guiding my National League Ladies to the National Shield Final in 2012, and most recently coaching both Men’s and Ladies squads to their respective National League titles in 2016.

My goals and ambitions are high for New Forest Volleyball and I look forward to many years of success for this very unique club!

NVL Men's Coach

Simon Golding

I started playing volleyball at university in 1985 – when the ball was white, you could block the serves (yes, honestly!), the sets were to 15 points (not 25) and you could only score a point when your team was serving. Very quickly I decided I wanted volleyball to be my main sport and in a short space of time I made my way into the top division of English volleyball with Capital City Spikers and a place on the Great Britain students team at the 1991 Universiade in Sheffield – the pinnacle of my indoor playing career.

In beach volleyball I was fortunate to play alongside some superb players, rising to No.2 in the UK rankings with both Clayton Lucas and Australian World Tour player Tristan Boyd. i won 3 Grand Prix events and finished runner-up in the British Championships in 2000. I have been coaching volleyball since 1990 and during that time I coached the Great Britain women’s beach volleyball team on the World Tour. My team of Audrey Cooper and Mo Glover went on to compete in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Indoors I have been a player coach in National League volleyball since 1993 and have coached IBB Polonia, Solent and Wessex in the top division, winning the National Cup with Wessex in 2001.

I have now turned my focus to junior coaching with New Forest and also coaching the senior men’s team in Division 2 NVL. Since 2001, I have been working as a television sports commentator, where I regularly commentate on international volleyball.

Ballard Satellite Coach

Justin Whitbread

I am currently Director of Sport at Ballard School – one of our satellite schools. My philosophy in the sport is to introduce and develop grass roots Volleyball at a young age, through providing fun yet educational Volleyball at a pace that is bespoke to the child. One of my biggest successes is seeing juniors I coached when they were at school now playing NVL and representing England Cadets & Juniors.
