NVL LADIES HEAD COACH

James Kemp

I have been involved in Volleyball for over 28-years and it’s so exciting to finally be part of a club with a real passion, desire and hunger for success!

As a coach I have been fortunate enough to have had so many quality players to work with – none more so than right now! I have always immersed myself within the sport and in particular with elite level coaches. This has helped me to develop my own philosophy and style of play, which my players buy into wholeheartedly.

My successes to date include being awarded National Children’s Coach of the Year in 2011, guiding my National League Ladies to the National Shield Final in 2012, and most recently coaching both Men’s and Ladies squads to their respective National League titles in 2016.

My goals and ambitions are high for New Forest Volleyball and I look forward to many years of success for this very unique club!

Club Head Coach

Clayton Lucas

My role as the clubs Head Coach means that I oversee the training and competitive elements of the club from juniors to seniors, working closely with the club coaches to ensure a consistent and uniform delivery of information, that brings the best out of the players and the coaches.

As the assistant coach for the England Cadet Boys, I get to see the top prospects this country has to offer on a monthly basis. Working to Head Coach Luis Bello I am constantly updating and developing my coaching.

My Experience as an England and Great Britain International over a 12-year period gives me a good library of knowledge to pass on to the players and the coaches. Add in to that, I am in the process of completing my level 3 volleyball coaching award, the highest award in England.

My job as a volleyball commentator, where I sit court-side and watch the best teams in the world play the game, gives me unique access to players and coaches to discuss the game at the highest level, keeping my knowledge up to date and relevant.

Junior Development Officer & Ballard Satellite Coach

Justin Whitbread

I am currently Director of Sport at Ballard School – one of our satellite schools. My philosophy in the sport is to introduce and develop grass roots Volleyball at a young age, through providing fun yet educational Volleyball at a pace that is bespoke to the child. One of my biggest successes is seeing juniors I coached when they were at school now playing NVL and representing England Cadets & Juniors.

Academy Boys Coach

Joe Waterman

I have been involved in volleyball for 14 years now and am currently experiencing one of my most enjoyable periods in the sport. I have mostly experienced success on the court playing personally, which I now hope to transfer to coaching and helping others in success of their own. I have high expectations for my players, working hard and ensuring the fundamentals are secure, aiming to give them a platform to go on and progress in the game and compete and enjoy volleyball to the best of their ability.

NVL Ladies & Academy Girls Coach

Toby Goodman

I was first introduced to volleyball at college by local legend Simon Golding. Being tall has it’s advantages and it was far less running around than Basketball. A few years later I then bumped into the Solent National Volleyball squad who had turned up to use a local league team for practice and by co-incidence Simon was their coach. I was invited to join the NVL team despite my amazing lack of coordination. Fast forward 12 years and I found myself having played in every division as a Middle, won a few leagues and made it to a National Shield Final.

In 2006 I helped form and set up the Ordnance Survey Volleyball Club. I coached two mens, a ladies and two mixed teams in the local indoor league and outdoor tournaments. As a new club with nearly all players new to the sport, the learning curve was steep yet fun and competitive. During this time I ran volleyball events for sports days, Scout jamborees, and open sessions in Southampton Common. After 5 years I focused more on my NVL and assisting the Solent Ladies NVL team.

I joined New Forest Volleyball in 2013 joining their Men’s team and assisting their Ladies Head Coach. In 2017/18 season I took over as Ladies Coach and have been Assisting Clayton with running the Academy Girls and Boys squads both the U16 and U18s. As a coach I try to foster the best attacking ambition in my teams and as a Middle Blocker I am firmly convinced serving and defence is the best form of attack.
